Sun City Neighborhoods:
Sun City is a census-designated place and unincorporated town in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. Sun City is located in the North West Valley of the Phoenix-Metropolitan area and covers nearly 14.5 square miles. Sun City’s adjoining sister city is Sun City West both of which are retirement communities popular with snowbirds.
Sun City started construction in the 1960s as a Del Webb community on the site of what was once the ghost town of Marinette. Del Webb is a group that constructs retirement communities in the Sun Belt. The Sun City community has changed very little in the last 40 years. However, as more retired to the area, Del Webb began construction on Sun City West in the late-1970s, Sun City Grand in the late-1990s, and Sun City Anthem in 1999 and Sun City Festival in July 2006. Sun City has been recognized as one of the top places to live for men and woman over the age of 55.
Sun City is designed for active adults and offers its residents a variety of things to do; with seven recreation centers, eight golf courses, shopping centers, and more than 120 charted clubs, you can see why it is a popular destination for retirees.
In addition to numerous recreation activities and amenities Sun City has to offer, Webb wanted Sun City to be a self-contained community where residents could meet all their needs without leaving. As the population in Sun Citygrew, so did the need for a variety of services, such as shopping, medical, dining, and long-term care. The community’s first church was the United Church of Sun City. Its first retirement home was Sun Valley Lodge. Sun City’s first hotel was the Hi-way House, which also served as a restaurant and an apartment for those waiting for their homes to be built.
Sun City is the gold standard on how an active adult retirement community should be built. Come experience Sun City and enjoy retirement the way it should be.
